The Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is $30,000 closer to providing CT scans in Alexandria thanks to a contribution from Desjardins Ontario Credit Union’s ‘Community Development Fund’.

Currently, patients at the HGMH who require scans must travel to other hospitals, including those in Cornwall, Hawkesbury, and Winchester. Having the CT technology at HGMH will help reduce those trips, support faster diagnoses, and allow more patients to receive essential care close to home, according to Mark Adam, Chair of HGMH Foundation.

“Imagine what it will mean for a patient to walk through the doors of HGMH and receive a CT scan right here in Alexandria, surrounded by the community they call home,” Adam said. “That is the future we are working toward, and it is within our reach.”

The funding goes towards the HGMH Foundation’s ‘Bring It Home CT Scanner Campaign’, which is trying to raise $3.5 million by March 2027 for the hospital’s first onsite CT scanner. To date, the Foundation has raised approximately $2.8 million, representing 80% of its $3.5-million fundraising goal.

“We believe strong communities are built on access to essential services, including quality healthcare,” said Billy Boucher, CEO, Desjardins Ontario Credit Union. “Through our Community Development Fund, we support projects that bring people together around solutions to local needs. We are proud to contribute to the Bring It Home campaign and help advance an initiative that will benefit residents of Glengarry and the surrounding region for years to come,”
