The Quebec ministry of agriculture and food is asking the public not to consume certain cheese curds produced at a facility in Grenville.
On Friday, October 30, the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ) in collaboration with Casse-croûte Fromage et Cie, located on Rue Maple/Route 344 in Grenville, requested that the public consume the following products:
« FROMAGE EN GRAINS NATURE » cheese curds, 400 grams and 200 grams: all batches with “best before” dates on November 1; on November 8 and 9, 2026.
«FROMAGE EN GRAINS AVEC SAVEUR» flavoured cheese curds: steak spice, dill, barbecue, and jalapeno, 200 grams, all batches with “best before” dates on November 1; on November 8 and 9, 2026.
According to MAPAQ, The products subject to this warning were offered for sale until October 29, 2026, in several establishments in the Laurentides region. They were sold refrigerated and, in the case of fresh cheeses, may have been sold at room temperature.
Fromage et Cie is recalling the products. They have agreed with MAPAQ to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. Furthermore, anyone who has one of these products in their possession is advised not to consume it. Even if the products in question show no signs of spoilage or have no unusual odor, their consumption may pose a health risk.
If symptoms related to the consumption of a product appear, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional.
MAPAQ reported that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of these foods have been reported to date.
On Friday, October 30, Fromage et Cie owner Nathalie Malo shared on social media that she had received a notice concerning the safety of the cheese curds and explained the circumstances which led to the notice being issued.
“This situation stems from an unauthorized change to the pasteurization time made by a member of our team, without our knowledge. Although this act is isolated and contrary to our established practices, the law is clear: this change compromises the product’s safety,” Malo wrote.
“I take full responsibility for this situation. While I could never have imagined such a decision being made without my approval at such a crucial stage, it is my responsibility to ensure that every process is followed flawlessly. I deeply regret this oversight and the concerns it may cause you,” she continued.
Malo wrote that immediate steps were taken to rectify the situation and strengthen control protocols to ensure that such an error can never happen again.
“Your health and trust remain our top priority,” she wrote, directed to customers.
Malo said that if customers require any further information, they should contact Fromage et Cie.
