Beginning in 2027, Canada Post will begin discontinuing door-to-door mail delivery for residents of Hawkesbury.
On Thursday, June 11, the federal crown corporation announced that Hawkesbury addresses are among the 158,000 addresses in Ontario which will have their mail delivery switched to community mailboxes in 2027. In total, 485,000 addresses in 37 locations across Canada are part of the latest round of conversions to community mailboxes from home delivery. Earlier in 2026, Canada Post began the conversion process with 136,000 addresses across Canada.
According to a Canada Post news release, over the coming weeks and months, the corporation will reach out to the affected communities. Community mailbox conversions are a key element of Canada Post’s plan to transform the postal service to meet the evolving needs of Canadians without becoming a recurring burden on taxpayers. The Corporation’s deteriorating financial situation – including a record loss in 2025 and another significant loss in the first quarter of 2026 – underscores the urgency of this transformation.
As part of its transformation plan, Canada Post is converting four million addresses that still receive door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes. The national conversion program is expected to take about five years, with different areas transitioning each year.
Nearly three quarters of Canadian addresses already receive mail and parcels through some form of secure, centralized delivery such as community mailboxes, apartment lobby boxes and post office boxes.
The move to community mailboxes will increase security by putting nearly all mail and parcels delivered by Canada Post under lock and key. It will also reduce costs, as delivering to the door costs significantly more than to a community mailbox.
