A field near St-Albert could again be the site of another Guinness World Record being set.
On Sunday, August 22, an attempt will be made to set the record for the largest number of agricultural plow blades being pulled simultaneously.
The effort to set the record is a project of François Latour, who also organized an event near St-Albert in 2019 where the Guinness World Record was set for the greatest number of threshing machines operating simultaneously. There were 243 threshing machines operating at the same time then. This time, it will take 80 furrows equaling 40, two-furrow plows connected to set the plowing record.
Johanne Roy, who is part of the organizing committee, said Latour and his volunteers have been rehearsing the big plowing project in recent months to ensure everything turns out right on August 22.
Six tractors from the 1970s will pull the plows. An Adjudicator from the Guinness World Records organization will be present to verify the results and confirm if the record has been set.
“François has been thinking about it for a few years now,” Roy said about the world record plowing plan.
The event is being held in conjunction with the Clarence-Rockland/Russell County Plowing Match. A series of other activities will also take place during the day as part of the plowing match and Guinness record event.
“It’s going to be a full day,” Roy said.
Those activities include a puzzle competition, dancing tractors demonstration, go karts, and live entertainment. Admission is $20 per person. Food, either at the lunch or supper being served on site, or from food vendors, costs extra. Competitive Plowing and demonstrations of antique farm equipment will be featured throughout the day. The effort to set the Guinness World Record for plowing will take place at 4 pm.
The location of the world record plowing event is 1776 Route 700 West, St-Albert. The attempt to set the record will be at 4 pm, but the event is open all day from 8 am to 8 pm.
