Allegations about living conditions at a residential living facility in Hawkesbury have led to intervention by public health officials, and a response from the facility’s management.

On April 9, TVA Gatineau aired a report alleging that the food being provided to residents at Residence Cameron was lacking in nutrition and that there was a bedbug infestation in half of the bedrooms at the Cameron Street building.

An anonymous source informed The Review about the TVA story and also said the situation had been reported to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU).

According to an EOHU spokesperson, the local public health agency is working closely with Residence Cameron to resolve a series of concerns that were brought to its attention.

The EOHU spokesperson added that improvements have been observed since intervention began at the facility. The EOHU continues to monitor the situation and provide education to staff and residents in a coordinated, multi-sector approach.

Residence Cameron Manager Pranav Dyas said, “everything is fine,” now at the facility, which is home to 15 people. He said the concerns about food nutrition have been addressed and the resident’s menus have been submitted to the EOHU.

Dyas said a pest control company visits the building monthly.

“They treat the rooms,” he said.

Dyas described the situation at Residence Cameron as “under control.”
