On Monday, August 27, 2025, Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG) Counties council unanimously approved the purchase of two snowplows—cab and chassis—and one set of plow and spreader equipment for a total cost of approximately $667,400 plus applicable taxes. One cab and chassis will serve the Township of South Glengarry, while the second, along with plow equipment, will serve SDG Counties.
The two cab and chassis will be purchased from Rush Truck Centres of Canada Ltd. for $428,424.20 plus tax, and the plow and spreader equipment from Gin-Cor Industries for $238,980 plus tax.
Municipal staff explained that $462,000 will be made available for the 2026 budget to cover the SDG Counties’ portion of the tenders. The Township of South Glengarry will cover its associated cost of $214,212.10 plus applicable taxes for its snowplow.
SDG Counties follows a standard equipment replacement schedule, replacing one snowplow each year after it has served 20 years. The newly purchased units are scheduled for delivery by late September 2026.
Staff noted that delivery of large trucks now takes 12 to 14 months. Delaying the tender could risk not receiving the equipment in time for the 2026-2027 winter season.
Manager of Operations Trevor Baker reported that these equipment costs continue to rise due to rising raw material costs such as steel, the cost of living, and the declining purchasing power of the Canadian dollar.
Council unanimously approved the contracts without further discussion.
