Public transit users in Argenteuil can now stay a bit drier while they wait for a bus.
The Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil has installed 12 more bus shelters at strategic locations on the public transit network.
The MRC first installed a bus shelter on avenue Hamford in Lachute, near the Kevin-Lowe—Pierre-Pagé Arena in 2019. In recent months, bus shelters have been added to other locations in Lachute as well as in Brownsburg-Chatham, Grenville, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge and Saint-André-d’Argenteuil.
Equipped with a two-seater bench and a solar lighting system, the MRC d’Argenteuil bus shelters also have a space dedicated to displaying the various routes offered by the MRC’s transportation department as well as to broadcasting advertisements. Bicycle racks as well as waste and recycling islands will eventually be added.
The installation of the bus shelters was made possible with funding from the Public Transit Capital Assistance Program of the Société de financement des infrastructures locales du Québec and the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable. In addition to this assistance, there is a financial contribution from the Caisse Desjardins d’Argenteuil.
Fare freeze for 2025
Another piece of good news for Argenteuil transit users, the MRC d’Argenteuil has decided to freeze fares for 2025. Fares will therefore vary between $4 and $5 per trip depending on the zone.
“The MRC recognizes that current economic conditions have an impact on users and wants to encourage the use of public transit as a sustainable mode of transport, which is why it has chosen to freeze fares for the coming year,” said Prefect Scott Pearce.
Argenteuil residents can use the TaxiBus, the Argenteuil / Saint-Jérôme circuit as well as the Carrefour Argenteuil circuit for their various public transportation needs. Citizens can obtain more information at www.argenteuil.qc.ca, or by calling 450 562-5797.
