The 2026 Québec provincial election campaign is about to begin and the race for the Argenteuil riding is taking shape. Voters will choose their representative at the National Assembly on Monday, October 5, 2026. Incumbent MNA Agnès Grondin of Équipe Christine Fréchette – Coalition Avenir Québec (formerly the CAQ) has decided not to seek another term.
Four parties have announced candidates in Argenteuil so far, in addition to an independent candidate. Québec Solidaire (QS) and Parti Vert du Québec (PVQ) have not yet announced candidates for the riding.
Here is a look at the candidates announced as of Thursday, August 20.
Équipe Christine Fréchette (ECF) – Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ): Julie-Andrée Numainville
The party announced Numainville’s candidacy on July 15. She has approximately 20 years of experience in philanthropy and has held leadership positions with organizations including the Canadian Cancer Society, Moisson Sud-Ouest, and the Fondation Pallia-Vie.

Numainville has also worked as a political adviser to the minister responsible for Social Solidarity and Community Action.
Parti Québécois (PQ): Pierre Nantel
The PQ has chosen Pierre Nantel as its candidate. Nantel is a former federal New Democratic Party (NDP) Member of Parliament (MP) who represented Longueuil—Pierre-Boucher and Longueuil—Saint-Hubert from 2011 to 2019. He later ran as a Green Party candidate in the 2019 federal election before moving into provincial politics.

Nantel previously ran for the Parti Québécois in Marie-Victorin in the 2022 provincial election.
Parti Libéral du Québec (PLQ): Émilie Jutras
The PLQ candidate for the riding of Argenteuil is Émilie Jutras. The PLQ announced her candidacy on August 7. Jutras is the community agriculture coordinator at the Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil. She grew up in Lachute, where she continues to live and work.

In her role with the MRC, Jutras works with families, schools, child-care centres, community organizations, municipalities, agricultural producers, and other local partners.
Parti Conservateur du Québec (PCQ): Marie-France Lemay
The PCQ will be represented by Marie-France Lemay. Lemay was the PCQ candidate in Rosemont in the 2022 provincial election. She has a background in human resources and nearly 20 years of experience in the healthcare and public-transit sectors.

Lemay has lived in the Argenteuil region with her family and has been involved in PCQ politics since 2014.
Independent: Margaret Brunton
Margaret Brunton is running as an independent candidate in Argenteuil. She has a background in teaching and served as a Canadian naval logistics officer specializing in finance. Brunton holds degrees in political studies and education, with a specialization in special education.

Brunton previously ran as an independent candidate for mayor of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge during the 2025 municipal election.
When to vote
Election day is Monday, October 5.
Advance voting is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, and Monday, September 28, with polling stations open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Elections Québec has announced additional opportunities to vote at returning officers’ offices between September 25 and October 1. Elections Québec will provide more information about the locations and hours during the election period.

How Argenteuil voted in 2022
The last Québec general election was held on October 3, 2022.
CAQ candidate Agnès Grondin won Argenteuil with 14,725 votes, or 45.10 per cent of the vote. The PQ finished second, followed by the PCQ, QS, and PLQ.
The overall turnout in Argenteuil was 64.17 per cent in 2022.
The candidate field is subject to change before nominations close, and additional candidates could be announced before Elections Québec publishes the final list.
