Grenville-sur-la-Rouge Council awarded multiple contracts unanimously on October 8 to successful bidders for the upcoming Walker Road raising project.

The council’s first contract was awarded to Innovex for purchasing a geotextile membrane to raise Walker Road. The cost does not include taxes and is worth $14,229, including the delivery of the membrane to a specified location. The geotextile membrane will prevent the mixing of different materials, aid in filtration to help reduce erosion and provide stability to the road over unstable soil.

The second awarded contract included purchasing granular materials for the Walker Road project. Awarded to Asphalte & Pavage RF, the contract is set to cost $112,700 before taxes and does not include the delivery fees for the materials.

Lastly, the third contract for the Walker Road project was granted to Transport Heatlie. Transport Heatlie will be responsible for transporting the Asphalte & Pavage RF materials to a specified site at a cost of $117,240, plus applicable taxes.

In total, the Walker Road project contracts will cost Grenville-sur-la-Rouge approximately $244,169 before taxes. The project will also be partially funded by an unspecified amount by the Gas Tax Québec Contribution program.

The raising of Walker Road is expected to begin around the second week of October and last approximately until the end of November. Only local traffic will be allowed to use the road when construction occurs.

Due to the construction on Walker Road, the bridge across Rivière Rouge is closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. Local traffic only is permitted on the bridge.
