On September 26, the Ontario government announced it is investing up to $740,000 for improving accessibility and supporting people of all ages and abilities, with The Nation Municipality to receive $22,489. The project will allow the municipal government to pave paths within Marcel Legault Park.
Ontario’s Inclusive Community Grants Program (ICGP) will help fund 20 projects to improve community life for both older Ontarians and people with disabilities. Since the initial onset of the ICGP, the province has provided over $5 million to support 107 inclusivity and accessibility projects.
ICGP provides up to $60,000 per project to local governments and community organizations to ensure that Ontarians with disabilities and all ages are part of every stage of community planning and development. One of the main goals of the ICGP is to promote accessible, practical, and timely improvements to increase accessible housing, outdoor spaces, buildings, and transportation needs.
“Inclusive communities are important because they help people with disabilities and seniors participate in community life by removing barriers,” Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho said.
The Marcel Legault Park project, once complete, will create a safe and accessible recreational environment for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds through the new paved pathways.
