To the Editor;
Two weeks ago I had a hip replacement. (I was told 12 years earlier that I needed a new hip but I was reluctant to do it then.) After moving from Pointe-Claire, Québec to VKH in 2017, we lost our healthcare contacts and had to get a new GP and pursue health care anew. Then the pandemic struck and we were all in suspended animation. Finally, the process leading to surgery in Ontario was undertaken: it was a slow process for reasons we all sort of understand or have experienced.
Some have been complaining that our healthcare system itself is on life support, and I have experienced some frustrations generally getting prompt help for numerous ailments. But this is not about that. It is a message of thanks.
I cannot understate my appreciation for the incredible professionalism and care I received at Cornwall Community Hospital through each step leading to and following my surgery. At each stage everything was thoroughly explained. Communication by phone was timely and as promised. The pre-op therapist (with beautiful blue eyes), the pre-surgery check-up nurse, the day surgery team of nurses and my surgeon, Dr. M. Elkurbo were so efficient, reassuring and professional. My most sincere “thank you” goes to all of my health team.
