The paving project on Highway 34 between Highway 417 and Hawkesbury will not be totally completed in 2026.
Work on the highway began in July. According to a response The Review received from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation on Friday, October 30, work is expected to continue through to late fall, at which time the project will shut down for the winter season. The project will resume in Spring 2027.
Traffic slowdowns and delays continued during the past week on Highway 34. On Friday, traffic was stopped in front of Pleasant Corners Public School, and in front of Foodland in Vankleek Hill. Parents reported delays while driving their children to school.
No official detour has been established during the construction on Highway 34, but many drivers have created their own detours to avoid delays in the work zone.
