The municipal and school board elections held on Monday, October 26, determined trustees for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB), which oversees English public education, and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO), which oversees English Catholic education in the region.
John Danaher was acclaimed in North Glengarry, Tara Barton-Maclaren won the UCDSB’s Ward 10 race, Karen Torrie-Racine and Donna Nielsen won the two CDSBEO trustee seats representing Glengarry, and Sue Wilson was acclaimed in Prescott and Russell.
UCDSB
John Danaher was acclaimed as the UCDSB trustee for Ward 9, which includes North Glengarry.
In Ward 10, Tara Barton-Maclaren defeated James Vorobej. The Township of Champlain reported 9,289 votes for Barton-Maclaren and 1,660 for Vorobej.
Those figures reflect Champlain’s published results, not the complete Ward 10 totals across all municipalities. The UCDSB’s official election page confirms Barton-Maclaren’s election but does not provide a consolidated vote count.
CDSBEO
In the contested CDSBEO trustee race covering Glengarry, Karen Torrie-Racine and Donna Nielsen won the two available positions.
Torrie-Racine received 1,763 votes and Nielsen received 1,181, ahead of Suzanne Ayotte with 921 votes and Krista Ryan with 869.
The City of Cornwall’s official election statement confirmed Nielsen’s election after results from North Glengarry and South Glengarry were added to the final vote totals.
Sue Wilson was acclaimed as the CDSBEO trustee for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, which includes Hawkesbury and Clarence-Rockland.
UCDSB says trustees will be sworn in at the board’s inaugural meeting on Wednesday, November 18.
According to the CDSBEO’s by-laws, the board’s inaugural meeting is to be held on the first Tuesday following Sunday, November 15. The meeting is therefore expected to be held on Tuesday, November 17.
The new four-year term runs from 2026 to 2030.
