OPP officer facing sexual assault charge

A veteran Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer is facing charges over an alleged sexual assault in 2013.

The assault was alleged to have occurred in the Hawkesbury area and was reported to the OPP in January of 2020.  On June 3, the officer was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference of a minor.

The OPP is not releasing the name of the officer in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The officer, who has 19 years of policing experience, has been suspended with pay.

The OPP is not releasing any further details of the investigation.
