Alto and Cadence, the institutions leading the proposed high speed rail project, announced that field studies will take place on the territory of East Hawkesbury soon. This work will include drone surveys, and geotechnical studies (soil analysis and drilling in certain locations). The studies are intended to allow Alto and Cadence to better understand the current environmental, economic, public health, and social conditions within the corridor being studied for the project. Alto and Cadence believe the studies will provide baseline information that helps assess the project’s potential effects and define measures to avoid, reduce, or offset impacts, while maximizing benefits for communities.
A social media post from the Township of East Hawkesbury emphasizes that the municipality is opposed to the proposed high-speed rail project.
Affected property owners will be contacted directly to authorize access to their land. Participation remains voluntary and financial compensation will be offered.
