This Halloween, the public is invited to step into nearly 175 years of local history for a paranormal investigation inside one of Vankleek Hill’s most storied historic homes.

Hosted by The Magic Dwarf Shoppe and David Arsenault All Hallows’ Eve After Dark will take place on Saturday, October 31, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The ART House, located at 36 Home Avenue in Vankleek Hill.

Led by renowned medium and paranormal investigator David Arseneault, this guided investigation will introduce participants to paranormal investigative techniques and methods of spirit communication as they explore the historic property after dark.

For generations, the house has stood witness to the lives of those who called it home—their celebrations, hardships, triumphs, and farewells. Now, on the night traditionally associated with the thinning of the veil between the living and the dead, visitors will have the opportunity to investigate what, if anything, may remain.

Are the Higginson’s truly gone? Who else has passed through these rooms over the decades? And could the house still hold stories waiting to be heard?

Participants will be invited to explore these questions during an evening that blends local history, paranormal investigation, and the chilling atmosphere of Halloween night.

A House Steeped in Local History

The setting for the investigation is as compelling as the questions it raises.

Built between 1850 and 1857 by Colonel William Higginson and his brother John, this elegant brick residence at 36 Home Avenue was created as a retirement home for their parents, Thomas and Nancy Higginson, and their daughter Ann. The project unfolded slowly over seven years. Once completed, the home remained in Higginson family hands for more than a century, until 1978.

The Higginson’s were among the most influential families in early Vankleek Hill. Farmers, business owners, educators, civic leaders, and visionaries, they helped shape the community we know today. Thomas Higginson was a founder of local educational initiatives and a respected community leader, while Colonel William Higginson became known for his involvement in local politics, the militia, industry, and even astronomy.
