A citizen’s group in Hawkesbury is aiming to increase voter turnout to 80.4 per cent in the October 26 municipal election. To make it easier for more people to vote, the Ligue du Réveil Civique (LLRC) has organized volunteers to offer free transportation for voters to advance polls on October 22, 23, 24, and on election day itself, October 26.

According to a press release from the LLRC, the service is entirely impartial and does not represent any candidates. The aim is to assist voters with mobility limitations, who do not have a vehicle or who wish to be accompanied to vote. The volunteers wish to facilitate democratic participation and encourage equitable access to the electoral process.

Free transportation is only offered during the opening hours of the polling station at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex, which are from 10 am to 4 pm on October 22, and 10 am to 4 pm on October 23 and 24. On October 26, the polling station is open from 10 am to 8 pm.

To reserve transportation, call 613-703-7986. Vehicles will be identified by the “80.4%” logo in the rear windows on both sides of the vehicle.

According to the LLRC, volunteers have been given strict guidelines of political neutrality. They cannot recommend any candidate, nor can they discuss politics or election platforms. Their role is exclusively to provide free, safe, courteous and impartial transportation to the polling place.

This service is entirely organized by local volunteers, with no affiliation with the Town of Hawkesbury or any candidate. The objective is simple: to allow each citizen to vote freely, without transportation obstacles and at no cost.
