North Glengarry Fire Services recently received a diplomatic visitor. On September 30, the department hosted the Gabon Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Alexis Bengone, at the Dunvegan underground water storage site. Gabon is located on the Atlantic coast of Africa between Cameroon and the Republic of Congo. North Glengarry Fire Chief Matthew Roy shared details of the fire department’s water tanker shuttle operations and the benefits of having this fill site with 30,000 gallons of water for rural firefighting efforts. Similar tanks will be installed in Gabon in the future to assist in firefighting operations where water access is a challenge.
