Pierre Nantel has been elected to represent Argenteuil in the Québec National Assembly, winning the riding for the Parti Québécois on Monday, October 5. Approximately 40 people were in attendance at the election-night event at its peak, as supporters gathered to watch the results come in.
Silence came over the room as supporters watched Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) Leader Christine Fréchette deliver her concession speech on Radio-Canada. That silence quickly turned into loud celebrations when Nantel was announced as the winner in Argenteuil.

Surrounded by supporters at Sir John Brewing Co. in Lachute, Nantel described the result as both a tremendous honour and a reflection of the desire for change he encountered throughout the campaign.
“I can see that I’ve discovered people who were very much ready for change,” Nantel told The Review before the results were announced. “It was a great race with everyone, but I guess that the change was more my camp than any other.”
The result represents a change from the previous provincial election. In 2022, CAQ candidate Agnès Grondin won Argenteuil with 14,725 votes, or 45.10 per cent of the vote. A total of 33,144 ballots were cast in that election, for a turnout of 64.17 per cent among 51,647 registered electors. Parti Québécois candidate François Girard finished second with 5,291 votes.
The boundaries of the Argenteuil riding were also changed for this election, meaning the 2022 results are not a perfect comparison with this year’s vote.
In his victory speech, Nantel thanked the volunteers, supporters, and their families who helped bring his campaign across the riding.
“It’s a fantastic honour,” he said. “I’ll do everything I can to rise to the challenge.”
Nantel said he wants his office to be open to residents and their ideas, emphasizing that his focus will be on Argenteuil.
“For me, right now, what interests me is Argenteuil,” he said.
He also said Argenteuil needs to have a stronger political voice at the provincial level.
“It’s often been said that Argenteuil is a region that isn’t isolated, but that’s been neglected. Clearly, politically, we need to have more influence,” he said.
Nantel identified several areas where he hopes to see additional attention and resources, including the arts, the local economy, healthcare, and Autoroute 50.
“We’re going to raise Argenteuil’s profile, and then we’ll secure all the resources that come with it,” he said.
With Monday’s result, Nantel will now represent Argenteuil as its Member of the National Assembly (MNA) in Québec City.
“This is going to be a wonderful challenge,” he told supporters. “I’m going to do it with all of you.”
According to Élections Québec, as of 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 5, Nantel had received 8,956 votes or 33.14 per cent of the popular vote. In second place, Parti Libéral du Québec candidate Émilie Jutras had received 6,923 votes. Parti conservateur du Québec candidate Marie-France Lemay finished third with 5,437 votes.
CAQ candidate Julie-Andrée Numainville finished fourth with 3,096 votes. The CAQ had held Argenteuil since 2018 under Grondin, who chose not to run again in 2026.
There were 43,063 registered voters in Argenteuil for the provincial election. The participation rate was 63.74 per cent.
