To the Editor,
Thanks for covering the Glengarry Honey and Pollinator Festival on August 29. I had a ball talking to people who stopped by the adjoining tables for Eco East and Seniors For Climate Action Now (SCAN). Eco East’s message was that gardens with native plants support insects and birds, and “Don’t Rake The Leaves”. Everyone agreed. Dozens of people signed postcards to their MP asking him/her to “act now to invest in renewable energy, phase out fossil fuels, and protect communities”. We ran out of those postcards at the SCAN table, but several people signed a petition asking the Ontario government to transition faster to renewable energy. People were lamenting the devastating wildfires, floods, evacuations and extreme heat of the past summer. People signed up for more information from SCAN and Eco East and seemed interested in future efforts. It felt like community.
