Ontario’s francophone community is young. According to the province’s Ministry of Francophone Affairs, the age of Ontario’s Francophone population is slightly younger than the province’s total population.
Young Francophones aged 0 to 24 represent 25.8 per cent of the province’s official Francophone population, or approximately 168,000 people. This significant proportion illustrates the key role of new generations in the vitality and continuity of Ontario’s Francophonie.
Ontario residents aged 45 to 64 comprise 28.7 per cent of the Francophone population, and 21.5 per cent of Ontario Francophones are aged 65 and older.
In 2025, Franco-Ontarian Day on September 25 brought together more than 47,000 Francophone participants in communities across Ontario, including at Monuments de la Francophonie in local communities such as Alfred, Hawkesbury, Casselman, and St-Albert.
In 2026, the celebrations of language and culture will again continue in Francophone communities locally and across the Province of Ontario.
