In Embrun, one of the community’s most anticipated fall traditions is returning with an exciting new home and an expanded experience for 2026.
Ability Hive Accessible Halloween will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Jonathan Pitre Accessible Park in Embrun. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
Originally launched in 2023 as a neighbourhood initiative to make Halloween more accessible for children and adults living with disabilities, the event has continued to grow each year. With the support of the Township of Russell, this year’s celebration begins an exciting new chapter as the event transforms the park and surrounding parking area into an immersive Halloween Village.
Visitors can look forward to beautifully decorated trick-or-treat stations hosted by local businesses and organizations, giant Halloween inflatables, costumed characters, a red-carpet photo station, and an enchanting, themed trail leading into the park.
Accessibility remains at the heart of the event. Families will have access to a dedicated Regulation Station, accessible washroom facilities, an adult change station, visual communication supports (AAC), sensory support resources, accessible pathways, and a welcoming daytime environment designed to help everyone participate comfortably.
“Accessible Halloween has always been about ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the magic of Halloween,” said Kim Vincent, founder of Ability Hive. “Moving to Jonathan Pitre Accessible Park allows us to build on that vision while creating an even more inclusive and memorable experience for our community.”
What began as a local neighbourhood event has since inspired the creation of Ability Hive, a Canadian mission-driven company dedicated to improving accessibility through sensory and therapeutic products. Today, Ability Hive continues to donate two per cent of all sales to organizations and initiatives that support the disability community across Canada, while Ability Hive Accessible Halloween remains its flagship annual community event.
Community sponsors, volunteers, costumed characters, and local organizations continue to join together to make the event possible, creating a celebration that welcomes people of all ages and abilities.
