The community has responded enthusiastically to the inaugural edition of La Classique du Clocher, which will take place on July 28, 2026, at the Hawkesbury Golf and Curling Club.
The tournament, with Honorary Chair Bob Hartley, former National Hockey League head coach and Stanley Cup champion, the event is now officially sold out, with 148 golfers registered across 37 foursomes.
The organizing committee is delighted by the tremendous support shown for this fundraising initiative benefiting the “At the Heart of the Community” campaign of Saint-Pierre-Apôtre Parish.
The day will feature several special guests, including Éric Veilleux, coach and former professional player; Dominique Ducharme, former head coach of the Montréal Canadiens; Gilbert Delorme, former National Hockey League defenceman; Steve Barton, who recently retired after a distinguished career as an NHL linesman; as well as Andrée-Anne Barbeau, sports journalist at RDS and newly appointed host of Montréal Canadiens broadcasts, and Ivan Demidov, one of the Montréal Canadiens’ top prospects.
“La Classique du Clocher is much more than a golf tournament. It is a unique opportunity to bring our community together around a meaningful project that will help preserve our heritage and ensure the future of our church at the heart of community life,” said Hartley.
Funds raised will support major restoration and improvement projects at Saint-Pierre-Apôtre Church (St-Alphonse-Ligouri).
“We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners, volunteers, and participants. The exceptional enthusiasm surrounding this first edition demonstrates just how important our church remains as a gathering place and cornerstone of our community,” added Father Éric Robichaud, pastor of the parish.
Although the tournament is sold out, community members can still support the “At the Heart of the Community” campaign by making a donation. Every contribution will help preserve this shared heritage and ensure its vitality for future generations.
