The Speaker Series is returning to the Vankleek Hill Museum this summer. Six presentations are planned during July and August and are described as evenings of local history and storytelling.
The first talk is on July 7. Frank Hurley will discuss former Vankleek Hill Postmaster Jack Hurley and his World War Two story that remains unfamiliar to many area residents.
Bill Byers will speak on July 15 and discuss the first 50 years of non-Indigenous settlement in the area.
Readers of The Review will appreciate Louise Sproule’s presentation on July 21. From hot lead to hot clicks; A century of change is all about the evolution of our local newspaper. Sproule was Publisher of The Review from 1992 to 2024.
Pilon’s Bakery; Can you smell those cookies? will bring back memories on July 28 when Jean-Luc Pilon talks about the well-remembered bakery.
On August 11, Debbie Hall and a guest will give a presentation about Vankleek Hill orphaned children from the 1800’s through the early 1900’s.
The final Speaker Series presentation is scheduled for August 18. A People ready to stand; Life, loyalty, and the Militia in Prescott-Russell will be presented by Jim Mullin about local military history.
