A new cupboard in Casselman allows people in need of food to discreetly obtain it, and for people wanting to contribute food to discreetly donate it.

The Casselman Community Mini Food Pantry officially opened on Monday, June 15 and is located behind the Pharmasave drugstore.

According to a social media post by Casselman Mayor Geneviève Lajoie, the project began when a resident shared the idea and the Casselman Free Pantry group was formed. The management of the drugstore extended its support. Lajoie said it was a project she had also wanted to see happen in Casselman for many years.

“Thanks to the support of Pharmasave Casselman, this little pantry now has a home and will be available for anyone who would like to give a little help or receive a little help,” Lajoie said.

“What I love most about this project is that it demonstrates what can happen when residents, local businesses, and community leaders work together toward a shared goal. A simple idea became something real because people were willing to collaborate and take action,” she added.

Lajoie hopes the free pantry becomes more than just a box filled with food.

“I hope it becomes a symbol of the kindness, generosity, and community spirit that make Casselman such a special place to call home,” she remarked.

Contributors may leave donations in the cabinet, which has a securely latched door. Likewise, those in need of food may take from it at any time.

The Casselman Community Mini Food Pantry is located behind the Pharmasave store at 732 Principale Street in Casselman.
