Residents from across Prescott-Russell and the Ottawa-Gatineau region are invited to support two important causes during a special community fundraiser at Bergeron Garden Centre on Saturday, June 20.

The event, called BIG-FM’s Blooms for Cancer, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bergeron Garden Centre on De La Baie Road, just off County Road 17 in Clarence-Rockland.

A portion of all sales from flowers, vegetables, gardening supplies and planting materials will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Rockland Help Centre food bank.

The fundraiser is being held in memory of Thérèse Bergeron, wife of garden centre owner Michel Bergeron, who passed away from cancer last May. Thérèse played a key role in the family businesses, including Bergeron Garden Centre and Landtech, and was well known throughout the community.

The Bergeron family has a long history of supporting local causes and community events, marking more than 65 years in business in the region.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will also help support the Rockland Help Centre, which continues to face increasing demand for its services. According to food bank president Daniel E. Sabourin, donations often decline during the summer months while the need for assistance continues to grow.

Visitors will also be encouraged to make monetary donations and bring non-perishable food items throughout the day.

Weather permitting, BIG-FM morning host Derrick Scott will broadcast live from Bergeron Garden Centre, speaking with visitors and helping raise awareness for the fundraiser.

Organizers say the fundraiser will take place rain or shine, although the live radio broadcast will depend on weather conditions.

For those looking to support cancer research while helping families in need, Blooms for Cancer offers a chance to make a difference while preparing gardens for the summer season.
