The organization responsible for attracting and encouraging industrial investment in Hawkesbury and is moving ahead with plans for a new industrial park.

On Wednesday, May 6, the Hawkesbury Industrial Investment Association (HIIA) held its annual general meeting.

In his report, HIIA outgoing President Ron Bender highlighted progress towards the development of a new industrial park near the intersection of Highway 17 and Tupper Street as the HIIA’s greatest accomplishment during the past year.

The 130 acres of land for the proposed industrial park is located behind the Pharmacie Jean-Coutu warehouse, the Quality Inn, and a MacEwen gas station.

The HIIA owns the land, which is currently within the boundaries of Champlain Township, but would require sewer, water and road services from the Town of Hawkesbury. In December 2025, Hawkesbury and Champlain reached a memorandum of understanding which will allow the industrial park area to eventually be annexed by Hawkesbury in exchange for Champlain gaining access to Hawkesbury’s water and sewer connections for undeveloped land fronting the south side of Highway 17.

Bender said the firm LGA has been hired by the HIIA to do the planning for the new industrial park, which will include two new streets, cul-de-sacs, and a pedestrian path. The HIIA has also called for proposals on engineering services for the project. The types of industries the HIIA is hoping to locate in the new development include agri-food, logistics and storage, durable goods, circular energy, and metal fabrication.

In 2025, the HIIA responded to seven inquiries from companies seeking industrial land, three wanting build-to-suit development, three seeking industrial buildings for sale, 26 seeking industrial spaces for rent, and 30 visits by representatives of companies to its head office.

HIIA Chief Executive Officer Paula Assaly said it was not possible to name the companies which have expressed interest in locating in the new industrial park.

Patrick Tallon and Philippe Legault have also joined the HIIA board for a three-year term. Legault is now serving as HIIA President.
