Going out for breakfast on Sunday morning is a popular activity, and on Sunday, May 3, hundreds of people went out for breakfast in Vankleek Hill and raised money for the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation.
The annual Russell Gauley Breakfast raises funds for chemotherapy and oncology at HGH. According to HGH Executive Director Erin Tabakman, the funds raised at the 2026 breakfast will go towards improving the patient experience. Televisions in the oncology department will be replaced and headphones purchased for patients to use. The department has large windows, so bird feeders will be purchased so patients may enjoy watching birds outside during their visits to the hospital. New privacy curtains for inside the department will also be purchased.
In addition to funds raised from attendees, other clubs and organizations have also made donations, including local Knights of Columbus councils, which contributed a total of $1,000.
The Russell Gauley Breakfast is made possible by volunteers, including members of the Hawkesbury Rotary Club. Maple syrup for the many pancakes served at the breakfast was donated by MND Maple Products of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
