Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 municipal election in Champlain Township.
Candidates can file nomination papers from May 1 to August 20 during regular office hours, and on August 21 (Nomination Day) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Positions available on council include:
- Mayor
- Two councillors – Ward 1 (Vankleek Hill)
- Two councillors – Ward 2 (L’Orignal)
- Two councillors – Ward 3 (Longueuil)
- Two councillors – Ward 4 (West Hawkesbury)
To submit a nomination, candidates must contact clerk Alison Collard at the Township of Champlain to schedule an appointment. Filing a nomination may take 15 minutes or more.
To file, candidates must submit a completed Nomination Form (Form 1) in person at the clerk’s office, along with the required fee:
- $200 for mayor
- $100 for all other positions
Payment can be made by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order payable to the Township of Champlain. Candidates must also present identification.
Municipal candidates must include 25 endorsement signatures from eligible voters (Form 2). This requirement does not apply to school board trustee candidates.
If not enough candidates are nominated, submissions will reopen for vacant positions on August 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The new council term will run from November 15, 2026, to November 14, 2030. Voting day is set for Monday, October 26, 2026.

As of Monday, May 4, incumbent Mayor Normand Riopel had filed nomination papers. Incumbent Councillors Paul Burroughs (Longueuil) and Gerry Miner (West Hawkesbury) had also filed nomination papers to seek re-election as councillors. Claude Laflamme had filed to run for council in Longueuil and Greg Ross had filed as a council candidate in West Hawkesbury.
