A usually busy bridge in Hawkesbury is about to reopen after months of being closed for repairs.
Since August 12, the Cécile Bridge on Main Street West has been closed for significant rehabilitation work. Hawkesbury Director of Public Works Jonathan Wilson said the bridge is to reopen during the afternoon on Wednesday, November 26.
Wilson said the project is one week behind schedule, but KB Civil, the construction company doing the work, was on the job around the clock and on the weekends to finish the project. Wilson said the project is also on budget.
In June 2025, Hawkesbury Council awarded the contract for the Cécile Bridge project to KB Civil Constructors Inc. of North York for $668,976.99 excluding sales tax.
A lack of availability of subcontractors and delays due to other road work are the reason pedestrians may have noticed that there are still pieces of sidewalk missing around traffic lights which were installed on McGill Street in Hawkesbury a year ago.
Late in the fall of 2024, new lights were installed at the intersection of McGill Street with Nelson Street and Bon Pasteur Street, and at the intersection of McGill Street with Spence Avenue. Concrete to complete sidewalks on each corner of the intersection has not yet been poured.
Wilson said the contract for the project was awarded by the town to Foucault Excavation, which attempted to hire subcontractors to complete the concrete work, but none were available. Then, the rehabilitation work on the Cécile Bridge on Main Street West began in late summer, 2025 and Bon Pasteur and Geneviève streets became a detour route while the Cécile Bridge was closed. Wilson said the concrete at the intersection of McGill, Bon Pasteur, and Nelson will be done once Bon Pasteur is no longer carrying extra detour traffic.
“We are trying to do the work after the bridge is open, as all the traffic is rerouted by this intersection. We are working in and with the contractor to make it happen as soon as possible,” Wilson said.
