The annual Harvest Fall Festival at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum is on Sunday, September 7 from 10 am until 4 pm in Dunvegan. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Fall Festival.

The popular horse and buggy parade is at 1 pm, but the day is full of activities for all ages from start to finish:

* Heritage trade demonstrations: blacksmithing, ice cream making, heritage textile arts and more!

* Vendors selling their historically inspired goods.

* Loads of antique agricultural equipment and “strange old tools” will be shown and demonstrated.

* All-day musical entertainment.

* Cow Pie 50/50 – a raffle like no other! A cow is brought into an enclosure, whichever square she poops on first is the winner of the draw. There is a ‘plop’ at noon and 2 pm. Winners could win as much as $1,125. Tickets can be purchased online now. $10 each or $25 for three tickets.

* Harvest Tent with preserves, home baking and plants for sale (we trust the community will pull through in helping donate items for this fundraiser!)

* The Zucchini contest is back! Best dressed and most unusual zukes will be judged. Bring them to the Harvest Tent. The judging takes place at 3 pm.

* Rooster Crowing Contest – bring your favourite rooster (in cage with food and water) to compete for most handsome, most prolific crower, etc. There is even a human rooster crowing contest to go with it. Judging at 2:15 pm. Prizes are courtesy of Alexandria Milling.

* Guest speaker, David Proudfoot will show and talk about the history of John Deere at 11:30 am.

* Children’s crafts (all day) and supervised old fashioned games (11:00 & 2:30)

* The Star Inn tavern will be operated by the award-winning Wood Brothers Brewery.

*Food and other refreshments will be for sale all day from the new “Flora’s Kitchen” canteen (thanks to the Dunvegan Recreation Association!)
