Two big projects in Lachute are advancing, and one of them is likely to cost more than originally anticipated.

At a special meeting of city council on Tuesday, May 20, a regulation was adopted to modify an earlier regulation authorizing up to $3.3 million to be spent on pavement, concrete, lighting, and new trees for rue Principale in the downtown area. The previous regulation authorized for up to $2.5 million to be spent on the project.

Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis said that an engineering assessment revealed higher cost estimates for the work, particularly for the cost of new streetlights.

Also, at the special meeting on May 20, Lachute council approved granting a contract for architectural work for the library construction project to C2V Architecture of Montréal for $312,850 plus taxes.
