Game 5 – Sunday, March 16 – Vankleek Hill Cougars 7, Westport Rideaus 4

The Vankleek Hill Cougars are just one win away from meeting Gatineau-Hull in the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) finals, after a convincing 7-4 road win over the Westport Rideaus on Sunday afternoon (March 16).

The victory was a huge bounce back, after Westport stunned Cougars supporters at the Vankleek Hill Arena with a comeback 6-4 win on Friday evening (March 14), to tie up the series at two games apiece.

With Sunday’s win, Vankleek Hill leads three games to two and could wrap up the series at home in Game 6 this Saturday, March 22. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 7 would be played in Westport on Sunday (March 23).

Game 4 – Friday, March 14 – Vankleek Hill Cougars 4, Westport Rideaus 6

Cougars forward Malcolm Seguin scored four goals, but it wasn’t enough, as a resilient Westport Rideaus squad came back from two goals down twice, to earn a 6-4 victory and tie up the NCJHL semi-final series at two games apiece.

The Cougars had leads of 2-0 in the first period and 4-2 in the second, but each time, the Rideaus came back to tie the game up. Three unanswered goals by the visitors in the third period silenced the full house at the Vankleek Hill Arena, as Westport went home with a 6-4 victory.
