A former Member of Parliament for Argenteuil died on September 24.

Francis Fox was 84 years old.

Fox, a Liberal, was elected to represent the former constituency of Argenteuil-Deux Montagnes in 1972 and was re-elected in 1974. From 1979 until being defeated in 1984, he represented Blainville-Deux Montagnes.

In 1976, Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau appointed Fox to cabinet as Solicitor General. However, Fox resigned in 1978 after it became known he had forged the signature of his girlfriend’s husband on a form consenting her to have an abortion.

In 1980, Fox returned to cabinet as Secretary of State. He also served as Minister of Communications and Minister of International Trade.

From 2005 to 2011, Fox served in the Senate, representing the constituency of Victoria in Québec.

After leaving politics, Fox worked as a lobbyist and as a member of former Prime Minister Paul Martin’s transition team.
