Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a person for assault and a motorist for impaired driving after receiving a call regarding intimate partner violence.
On October 4, 2024, shortly after 2:35 a.m., officers received a call involving intimate partner violence. Upon arrival on scene, officers were informed that the suspect had left in a vehicle with another person.
While continuing their investigation, officers patrolled the area in hopes of locating the vehicle that the suspect departed in.
Shortly after 4 a.m., officers located the vehicle, and the suspect was in the passenger seat. Subsequently, while speaking to the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was used, and the driver failed. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and transported back to the detachment.
As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old, from Russell Township, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:
– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC
Furthermore, a 39-year-old, also from Russell Township, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:
· – Assault CC
Both are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on November 13 and November 27 respectively.
