Tornado experts have investigated the tornado that touched down around Rigaud and Pointe-Fortune on Monday, May 27.

Wind speeds in the tornado reached 155 kilometres per hour and it has been classified as EF1, which is the lowest level on the five-level scale of tornado severity.

According to the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) at Western University in London, Ontario, a ground and drone survey on Tuesday, May 28 revealed a long, narrow track of damage starting near Sainte-Justine-de-Newton. The tornado travelled through parts of Très-St-Rédempteur, Rigaud, and Pointe-Fortune. The length of the tornado’s track was 14.3 kilometres and the maximum width of its path was 250 metres. Damage was reported at several properties, including roof damage to a home, damage to barns and a collapsed silo, and tree damage.

Many witnesses took photos and video of the tornado, including those near Autoroute 40.
