The urban area of Lachute continues to grow with new commercial and residential development.

The Carré Bethany is being built in stages on land to the west of Avenue Bethany and north of the Walmart store. Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis notes the project predates his election as mayor in 2022.

“It’s been in the works for years and years,” he said.

“It’s not even all approved,” he added.

The first parts of Carré Bethany were the Patrick Morin building supply store and the Couche Tard gas station which opened in 2019. In 2023, the new Microtel hotel opened behind Rue Paul, a new street being constructed which will connect Avenue Bethany with an extension of Rue Barron which will connect to the rest of Lachute’s urban area and the downtown.

Currently, a Mondou pet supply store and Wendy’s restaurant are being completed on Avenue Bethany. Both are scheduled to open soon.

Bigras-Denis said a veterinary hospital, daycare centre, and three apartment blocks of 60 units each are currently being constructed in the area.

“That’s all we have on the table right now,” he said.
