St-Jean-Baptiste/Fête nationale events are taking place on or around June 24 in communities across Québec, and Argenteuil is no exception.

The theme for Fête nationale across Québec this year is Entrez dans la Danse (Enter into the Dance) with an appropriate fleur-de-lys disco logo. In Brownsburg-Chatham, a full day of festivities is planned for Saturday, June 24 at Camping municipal de Brownsburg-Chatham, located at 457 route des Outaouais (Route 344).  The grounds, including the beach, are open to the public at 10 a.m. There will be a beach volleyball tournament, with various children’s activities and games. Beginning at 6 p.m., DJ MID MARK will provide the tunes needed for a good time before the ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. Live music begins at 8 p.m. with Jérôme 50 and wraps up just before the fireworks display at 10 p.m.

All Fête nationale activities at Camping municipal de Brownsburg-Chatham are free. Food and drinks will be for sale on site.

When the Fête nationale celebrations were announced on June 1, Brownsburg-Chatham Mayor Kévin Maurice said there is a feeling of good energy in the Brownsburg-Chatham community.

“I wish everyone a very good summer season!” Maurice said.

In Lachute, the Fête nationale events will take place on Friday, June 23 at the fairgrounds, located on avenue Hamford.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with free family activities on site. The food and beverage service will be provided by the Argenteuil minor baseball association and the Knights of Columbus. A short flag ceremony will take place at 8:15 p.m. and the headlining act at 8:30 p.m. is William Deslauriers. The sky will light up at 10 p.m. with fireworks.

Free shuttle service from other parts of Lachute to the fairgrounds will be available. More information is available at lachute.ca.

“We are very happy to be able to create a unifying event for our fellow citizens, and fellow citizens, again this year! In view of Fête nationale, the Ville de Lachute invites the population to decorate their houses with Québec flags,” Lachute Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis said.

In the village of Grenville, Fête nationale festivities at Parc Normand-Woodbury start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 with a short opening ceremony. Family and child-friendly activities are set up in the park until 8 p.m. A spaghetti supper will be served at the community centre on rue Tri-Jean from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., the parade starts, which is organized by the Maison des jeunes. Singer Marc Bélanger’s performance begins at 6 p.m. and ends before the fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Grenville-sur-la-Rouge has a new venue for its Fête nationale celebration this year. Everything takes place this year on Saturday, June 24 at Rafting Nouveau Monde-New World Rafting, located 25 chemin des septs-chutes, just north of Autoroute 50.

The grounds open at 10:30 a.m. with games and activities for all ages. During the afternoon, there is a circus show and trapeze workshop. Radio Bomba performs at 3:30 p.m until the flag ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Grouyan Gombo is on stage that evening at 8 p.m until 9:30 when the bonfire starts.

Rafting Nouveau Monde-New World Rafting is also offering a special Fête nationale discount for Grenville-sur-la-Rouge residents who want to enjoy the whitewater of their own Riviere Rouge. Both half-day rafting and family rafting for children aged six to 11 will be 50 per cent off on June 24 for Grenville-sur-la-Rouge residents.
