A public consultation was held during the Lachute council meeting on July 4, regarding a proposed zoning change to allow 140 new housing units in an area of rue Robert and rue Lafleur.

No questions from the public or council were asked during the consultation. Later in the council meeting, the regulation to amend the zoning passed second reading by council.

Support for Parc Lac Beattie

Lachute is providing financial support for a new park in Gore.

On July 4, Lachute council approved a resolution to contribute $30,000 to Gore for the ongoing development of Parc Lac Beattie. The park, accessible from chemin Beattie off of Route 329, opened in 2021 and features year-round trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Lac Beattie also offers opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.

The lake is mostly located in Gore but was formerly a water reservoir from Lachute. Lac Beattie is controlled by a dam and drains into Lac Sir John.

Lachute Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis spoke positively about the park and the recreational opportunities it provides.

“This is a big project for our region,” he said.

Well done

Final approval was given by Lachute council on July 7 to borrow $800,000 for maintenance and rehabilitation work on all of the municipal water wells.

Eight more units

On July 7, Lachute council also gave final approval to a zoning regulation which will permit eight new residential housing units on rue Alexandre near the fairgrounds.
