The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising motorists to ensure their loads are secure and their seatbelts fastened, after officers stopped a vehicle on McGill Street in the town and charged the occupants under the Highway Traffic Act.

On July 6, at 4:40 p.m., members of the OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on McGill Street in the Town of Hawkesbury. The driver was charged for having an insecure load, regarding a table sticking out of the back of the vehicle.

The passenger, who was sitting on the floor of the vehicle, was charged for not wearing a seatbelt and not occupying a proper seat.

The OPP would like to remind drivers to make sure that when travelling on the highways, please ensure any loads are secure and transported safely is done safely, and that seatbelts do save lives – but more importantly it is mandatory to wear them.
