One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and a second suffered smoke inhalation issues in a house fire on Saturday, March 19, in the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet.
On March 19, shortly before 4 a.m., officers with the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a residential fire on Principale Street in Plantagenet. The Alfred-Plantagenet and the Wendover Fire Services were already on scene and had been battling the fully engulfed house since 2 a.m. Police were called for fear that someone may still be in the house.
It was determined that all occupants escaped. One person was suffering from smoke inhalation issues and one person had life-threatening injuries. They were taken care of by the Prescott-Russell Emergency Services.
The Hawkesbury OPP Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FIS) assisted with the investigation, in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM). The OFM has now completed its investigation. No further investigation required.
