During the week of February 28 to March 6, officers with the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to over 280 calls for service. These included:
Impaired
On March 5, shortly before 4:30 a.m., a Russell County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offence on Route 500 West in The Nation Township, where an Ontario driver was arrested.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD) on the motorist. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old man from Alfred-Plantagenet Township, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b) and
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a)
On March 5, at approximately 7 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 417 Eastbound near the Casselman exit, where an Ontario driver was arrested.
During the investigation, the officer determined that the motorist had been consuming alcohol and was impaired. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, a 67-year-old female from Hawkesbury, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b) and
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a)
The motorists received a 90-day driver’s license suspension and the vehicles were also impounded for seven days.
The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
