The Christmas spirit was showing in Mont-Tremblant on December 23 when a man found an envelope containing $3,000 in US currency on a sidewalk. The man went to the Sûreté du Québec police station and handed over the money, hoping it would be returned to where it belonged.

Police officers called the various businesses surrounding the place where the money had been found.  After a few hours of searching, a store employee confirmed to police that someone had come forward claiming to have lost an envelope containing $3,000 in US currency. Fortunately, the employee had made a note of the contact details of the person who was advised to report it to the police.

“The person arrived at the police station in tears and really wanted to thank this Good Samaritan who gave us this sum. I called the Good Samaritan who agreed to come to the police station. It was hard not to be moved by the reaction the two people had when they saw each other,” said Sergeant Éric Cadotte.

The Sûreté du Québec salutes the gesture of the Good Samaritan who gave the money to the police station and reminds that any valuables found on a public street must be returned to the police.
