The best Mother’s Day present ever!
The Review, May 11, 2011 – VANKLEEK HILL – Most mothers don’t expect to get a cheque for nearly $1,300 as a Mother’s Day gift. But Cheri Barton, who has been raising funds and awareness about polycystic kidney disease (PKD) for many years, was amazed to learn last Sunday, May 8, that her daughter Amber had organized bake sales in January and February and a volleyball fun night at Pleasant Corners Public School to raise funds for PKD. The best part, Cheri noted, was that she had no idea Amber had organized the events until Mother’s Day.

Imported chickens seized
The Review, May 12, 1971 – HAWKESBURY – An Ontario government agency has raided a supermarket here and blocked the sale of about 140 broiler chickens imported from Quebec. Field staff of the Ontario Broiler Chicken Producer’s Marketing Board found the chickens on display in freezer units at a discount store in Hawkesbury. Using powers recently voted by the Ontario government, they put detention tags on the birds, because no permit had been issued for their importation, according to Marcel Rozon, the store’s owner. Mr. Rozon said he purposely allowed the chickens to be found to test Bill 10, passed in the Ontario legislature three weeks ago.
