On Tuesday, February 27, 2018 the Watoto Choir will present a concert at 7 p.m. at St. Jude Church in Hawkesbury.

The choir consists of 32 people (14 adults and 18 children). The age of the youngest child is six with the oldest child just 12 years old. The group arrived in Canada on January 14 for a tour, which ends on July 13, 2018 after traveling across Canada from Quebec to British Columbia.

The Watoto Children’s Choir is a group of African children’s choirs based at the Watoto Church in Kampala, Uganda. Watoto means “Children” in Swahili. Each child in the Watoto Choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents and now lives in a Watoto village.

The experience of travelling with a choir helps the children to develop confidence and boldness, as well as broadening their world view. Accompanied by a team of adults, the choir presents Watoto’s vision and mission by sharing personal stories, music and dance. While on the road, the children act as advocates for the millions of other African children who have experienced the same heartbreaking pain and suffering as they have.

Watoto Children’s Choirs have travelled extensively since 1994, sharing a message of hope for Africa’s orphans and widows. To date, the choir has toured six continents and performed to enthralled audiences in schools, retirement homes, churches, parliaments, state houses and royal palaces.

Everyone is welcome to come watch and enjoy their performance. Learn all about them at www.watoto.com
