Open since summer 2017, the mission of La Boîte à lunch de Lost River is to highlight products from the region. Taking place in a century-old building where the Lost River’s MacMillan’s General Store once stood, the store intends to keep a vibrant historic feel with its antique decor and costumes.

In connection with its mission to promote local products, owner Sandrine Charbonneau is launching afternoon events called “Meeting and Tasting.” The first event will take place on Saturday, December 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For the occasion, visitors will be able to meet Quebec Safran founder, Marie-Claude Inkel, in addition to tasting her products integrated into bites and cocktails.

Marie-Claude Inkel started Quebec Safran in 2015 in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge. She grows, harvests and transforms saffron, the pistils of crocus flowers, and incorporates them in her saffron dijon mustard, saffron cider vinegar and saffron syrup. Her company now appears in the Guide Debeur 2017.

The owner of La Boîte à lunch de Lost River will be accompanied by two young hostesses also dressed in 1940s country fashion, who will circulate in the shop throughout the event to serve bites and cocktails that integrate other local products for sale at the store. On-site guests will also be able to participate in the draw for a gift basket from the store.

The event is free, but reservations are recommended as places are limited. The store is located at 2839 Route 327 in Lost River in the Township of Harrington. Note that the harvest of saffron is done in November and that participants can book their vial of saffron which will be hand-delivered by Marie-Claude Inkel during the event. To book your saffron and/or join the event, contact the store by email at [email protected] or by phone at 819-687-9667.
