A social media post on a Hawkesbury-based Facebook page started spreading a rumor that someone had jumped off the Long-Sault bridge or that someone had thrown a baby off the bridge.

Both of these stories were revealed to be untrue. The Sûreté du Québec confirmed that a man called 911 around 7:30 p.m. on July 26 saying a woman had thrown a baby off the bridge. The man then immediately hung up.

SQ officers rushed to the scene only to find joggers running on the bridge. After interviewing the joggers and a man fishing on the side of the river, they concluded that the call was a dud. The case is now closed for both the OPP and SQ.
