The Hawkesbury & District General Hospital (HGH) officially inaugurated its new Mental Health and Addiction Regional Centre (MHARC) on October 28. In attendance were Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure; Glengarry Prescott Russell MPP Grant Crack; and Guy Desjardins, Warden of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell. The MHARC houses HGH’s community mental health and addiction services previously offered in four different offices in Hawkesbury. The Center provides services for people experiencing situations such as depression, stress, anxiety, grief, and more. The workers may also help people going through a crisis or living with schizophrenia or dementia, addiction and gambling problems, domestic violence, and relationship problems. The new building was designed to be welcoming and modern. Five programs are offered at the centre: Mental Health Treatment, Geriatric psychiatry, Addiction Services, Crisis Team and Assertive Community Treatment Team. The new centre’s staff includes 60 healthcare professionals, with eight psychiatrists, one psychologist, psychotherapists, social workers and counsellors.
