Hudson’s First Annual Plogathon: Earth Day Cleanup

April 22, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Free

This initiative has been launched to bring this beautiful community of Hudson together, by taking pride in our streets and parks and cleaning up the spring rubbish. And no better day to do it than April 22nd International Earth Day.

For those who dont know what Plogging is, its an eco-friendly exercise mashup that combines the endorphin rush of jogging (or walking) with the environmental benefits of picking up trash, a combination of jogging with picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). It started as an organised activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution. As a workout, it provides variation in body movements by adding bending, squatting and stretching to the main action of running, hiking, or walking.

We highly recommend you bring garden gloves, loads of used plastic bags (one for garbage, one for recycling) and your runners. Let’s participate in Hudson’s First Annual Plogathon. Families are welcome too!

Welcoming team and registration will take place on April 22 Easter Monday morning at the Hudson Community Center, 11:00am. Free coffee bar will keep smiles on everyones faces as we stretch and lunge our way to a great start.

Once registration complete, teams will be made and assigned specific town sectors to clean.

And away we go! Cleaning up the sidewalks, lawns and green spaces all along your circuit until your bags are full.

A sorting station will be set up at the Stephen F. Shaar Community Center, where designated bins will be lined up to receive our collections. During that time we’ll have forums on environmentally friendly practices, a coffee station and more. As well as a ‘Most Important Find’ and ‘Most Unusual Find’ contest of the day.
