On Tuesday, August 11, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge (GSLR) Council approved applications for provincial funding for approximately $8.3 million in road repairs and culvert work across the municipality. The applications will be submitted through the Programme d’aide à voirie locale (PAVL) under its Redressement et Sécurisation component for work on Avoca, Kilmar, and Rivière-Rouge roads.
One application covers work on Chemin Kilmar and Chemin de la Rivière-Rouge. The proposed work includes repairs to sections of Chemin Kilmar near the Chemin des Lilas intersection and another partial section of the road, as well as repairs to a section of Chemin de la Rivière-Rouge near Chemin Harrington.
Director General François Rioux confirmed that the preliminary cost estimate for the work is approximately $5 million, although it is not yet final.
A second application covers two projects on Chemin Avoca, including roadwork on a section near Constantineau and the replacement of a large culvert near Chemin Thervette. The preliminary cost estimate for these projects is approximately $3.3 million.
Council’s resolutions state that the roads are under municipal jurisdiction and that the proposed work is eligible for financial assistance through the PAVL program. The municipality will submit detailed cost estimates as part of the application process.
The Avoca work is already underway on a section near Constantineau, according to Rioux. The municipality has not yet specified the timing for the other work.
